For more than 130 years, National Louis University has provided teachers with exceptional preparation and professional development. From our roots established by Elizabeth Harrison to our National College of Education programs focused on diverse learners in urban settings, we consistently produce teacher innovators who excel in their fields.

Seventy-five National Louis University alumni have been awarded the Golden Apple Excellence in Teaching Award. This group of winners is made up of teachers from both the Golden Apple Chicago and the Golden Apple Rockford communities.

In 2014, the Chicago-based Golden Apple Foundation created the Stanley C. Golder Award for Excellence in Leadership Award to recognize outstanding principals.

Dominic Belmonte, president and CEO of the Chicago-based Golden Apple Foundation, said about National Louis University:

"It's become no surprise to me that many Golden Apple recipients are discovered to have a National Louis heritage. While the process we employ towards championing the excellence we seek does not focus on where the degree was obtained, time and again we discover to our delight that the path taken by the excellent teachers we honor passes through NLU."

Chicago's Golden Apple Teaching Excellence recipients each receive tuition-free sabbaticals at Northwestern University, $5,000 cash award and induction into the Golden Apple Academy of Educators. Rockford-based awardees are rewarded with scholarships, stipends and resources to enhance their classroom. Golder Award winners receive $10,000 to be used for professional development and a school project of their choosing.
